This is going to be one of the rare instances in which we take the side of reporters at Jeff Bezos’s blog, otherwise known as the Washington Post. The Post reports that the reason why House investigators never subpoenaed the January 6 Committee’s star witness Cassidy Hutchinson last June was because horny Republicans were sending her dirty text messages and asking her for sexual favors. The excuses from Republican lawmakers, including Speaker Mike Johnson, do not pass the smell test.
Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) became the chairman of the House Subcommittee on Oversight when Republicans took over the majority in January 2023. The subcommittee launched an investigation into the actions of the January 6 Liz Cheney Committee, which had recently shredded and burned all the documents from their bogus investigation into the mostly peaceful Capitol protest from 2021. Loudermilk, for those who don’t remember, has credited the success of Donald Trump’s first term in office to former House Speaker Paul Ryan.
Back in June, the subcommittee failed to subpoena Hutchinson to testify, nor did they subpoena her emails or text messages from that day. We’ll come back to that.
Hutchinson is the ditzy broad who changed her testimony before the January 6 Committee after she had a secret meeting with Liz Cheney, without her attorney president. One of the co-hosts from The View, Alyssa Farah Griffin, arranged this secret meeting between Liz Cheney and Hutchinson.
After that meeting, Hutchinson’s sworn testimony changed. She started telling her fabulist tale about how on January 6th, Donald Trump transformed into Jack Bauer and tried to choke out his Secret Service driver. Hutchinson claimed that she got that information from Tony Ornato, the Assistant Director of the Secret Service.
Hutchinson claimed that Donald Trump shouted, “I’m the f*cking president! Take me up to the Capitol now!”
Then, Trump tried to choke his Secret Service driver so he could commandeer the presidential limo and drive back to the Capitol. Trump would presumably then lead his unarmed January 6 troops to victory in the insurrection by sheer force of will and without any guns.
Reminder: That’s how dumb the Liz Cheney Committee’s conclusions were.
When it came time for the Subcommittee on Oversight to question Ms. Hutchinson, they didn’t subpoena anything from her. The Washington Post says that an aide to House Speaker Mike Johnson quashed the planned Hutchinson subpoena because that aide knew about the sexual text messages that Republicans were sending to her.
If Members of Congress know all these details about each other’s sex lives, what do you think they really know about events like January 6th that they’re not telling us?
Loudermilk denies this. He told the Post, “We didn’t see a need to subpoena because her attorneys were cooperating with us.”
Speaker Johnson denied that he had his aide suppress Hutchinson from testifying as well, telling the Post, “It didn’t make sense to give her any more attention, she had already testified, and it was a bit of a debacle.”
Does that make a lick of sense to anyone?
The Liz Cheney January 6 Committee deleted and shredded all the documents and evidence from their phony “investigation.” If you were Barry Loudermilk and you were running a serious investigation into the Liz Cheney Committee, wouldn’t you want to subpoena Ms. Hutchinson for her testimony, plus her text messages and emails from that day?
She was the star witness!
If Cassidy Hutchinson and her lawyers were truly cooperating with the subcommittee, as Loudermilk claims, then let us see her text messages. She must have handed them over if she was cooperating, right?
As for Speaker Johnson’s excuse, the exact reason why Cassidy Hutchinson should have been subpoenaed was BECAUSE her testimony was a debacle the first time. A serious investigation would have put her under oath and put her fabulist story about Donald Trump choking a Secret Service agent to the test.
Hutchinson clearly lied under oath about President Donald Trump. But now she has an ace in the hole. She has leverage over idiot Republicans who were texting her requests for sexual favors. This means that “The Swamp” will never press charges against Hutchinson for lying under oath about a matter of national importance. Hutchinson’s lawyer will have a field day with those dirty text messages if the DOJ ever tries to bring charges against her.
Cassidy Hutchinson did not receive a preemptive pardon from Joe Biden, as the members of the Liz Cheney Committee did. She could have been charged with lying under oath. But that will never happen now, because unnamed Republicans in Congress were trying to make booty calls with Hutchinson after Joe Biden’s fake votes were certified on January 6th.
