Jackie Alemany, a White House reporter who apparently moonlights as a diagnostic specialist, offered her own clinical assessment: Trump has "always had these strange tangents that don't make any sense, and middle of the night musings."
This was a full segment — multiple panelists, all nodding along, all deeply concerned about the president's cognitive state. No medical evidence cited. No neurological evaluation referenced. Just vibes from people who spent years telling you not to believe your own eyes about Biden.
The contrast isn't subtle. When Biden froze on camera, wandered off at G7 summits, and had to be guided off stages by his wife, MSNBC's editorial position was that raising questions about his fitness was irresponsible, ageist, and probably racist. They edited out a moment where Biden appeared to zone out during an interview rather than let viewers see it. That wasn't journalism. That was campaign communications.
But now — with a Republican in office — suddenly cognitive acuity is a matter of urgent public interest. Suddenly the same anchors who ran interference for a president who couldn't finish sentences are Very Concerned Professionals asking tough questions about mental sharpness.
The specific complaints tell you everything. Capehart's evidence of decline? Trump's comments about Canada wanting the benefits of statehood and the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz. Policy positions you can agree or disagree with. Not a man forgetting where he is or what year it is. Not a man shaking hands with air.
That's the difference MSNBC hopes you won't notice. Biden's issues were visible, physical, and worsening in real time — and the network's response was to gaslight the country. Trump's "issues" are policy statements the panel doesn't like, repackaged as evidence of cognitive failure.
