Barack Obama, the man whose administration opened a counterintelligence investigation into a presidential campaign in 2016, sat down with Stephen Colbert on CBS and had the audacity to warn America about the dangers of a politicized Department of Justice. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis responded on X with eight words that should be framed and hung in every history classroom in America: "The Russia collusion hoax would like a word."
That's it. That's the whole rebuttal. Eight words. Game over. Somebody call the coroner.
Obama told Colbert, "The White House shouldn't be able to direct the attorney general to go around prosecuting whoever the president wants prosecuted." He added, with a straight face no less, that "the awesome power of the state, you can't have a situation where whoever is in charge of the government starts using that to go after their political enemies or reward their friends." This from the guy who did exactly that. For years.
He even called the attorney general "the people's lawyer and not the president's consigliere." Beautiful sentiment. Really. Would've been nice if he'd believed that when his DOJ was busy cooking up the most elaborate political hoax in modern American history.

Let's remember what actually happened. In 2016, Obama's FBI opened a counterintelligence investigation into Donald Trump's campaign based on opposition research funded by Hillary Clinton. Special Counsel Robert Mueller spent years investigating and ultimately found no established coordination between the Trump campaign and the Russian government. None. Zero. The whole thing was a fabrication used to hamstring a duly elected president.
But Obama wasn't done lecturing. He told Colbert, "We can survive a lot, bad policy, funky elections... we can't overcome the politicization of the criminal justice system." Sir, you literally wrote the playbook on politicizing the criminal justice system. We're just reading it back to you.
And it gets worse. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard stated in July 2025 that "there is irrefutable evidence detailing how President Obama and his national security team directed the creation of an Intelligence Community Assessment that they knew was false" back in January 2017. They didn't just weaponize the DOJ — they fabricated intelligence assessments to do it.
Obama also claimed, "There were a couple [norms] that I followed, even though they weren't law." Norms? You spied on a presidential candidate. You unleashed federal agencies against your political opponents. You let your administration manufacture a narrative that consumed three years of a presidency. Those aren't norms, Barack. Those are crimes with better PR.
DeSantis didn't need a paragraph. He didn't need a press conference. He didn't need a 45-minute Colbert interview with soft lighting and sympathetic nodding. He needed eight words, as reported by Fox News. And those eight words did more damage than a thousand op-eds because they're true.
The man who weaponized the FBI, the DOJ, and the intelligence community is now warning us about weaponization. That's not irony. That's a confession dressed up as a lecture.
