Top Democrat Candidate for California Governor Suspends His Campaign and May Lose His Seat in Congress if He's Not Careful

Remember Eric Swalwell? The Democrat congressman who got caught having a relationship with Fang Fang, the hot spy China sent to gather intelligence from the married Congressman who sat on the Intelligence Committee. Yea that one. Well, he parlayed that squishy romance into thinking he’d be the best man for the job as California’s governor. Because yea when you get caught being pumped for intelligence in a classic honeypot scheme you should get access to even more intelligence and money and power. Right.

Anyways, as it turns out Swalwell’s past of boinking women who work for him didn’t stop with Fang Fang. A deluge of former female staffers came forward with their own stories about what its like working for the man who wants to be California’s next governor. And boy oh boy did the picture they paint of the handsy Congressman look shall we say not so nice. The allegations–of which he’s denied them all–were too much for the Democrat candidate and he suspended his campaign. But that’s not the end of the story for the Congressman. Now his seat in Congress may be taken away from him too! Let’s get into it…

Another day, another Democrat “champion of women’s rights” caught treating women like garbage. Shocking absolutely no one.

Swalwell was accused by multiple women who had previously worked for him of inappropriate behavior and one even accused him of rape.

Both the Manhattan DA and the Alameda County DA are now investigating. (He denies everything, naturally. They always do.)

Here’s what kills me about this whole thing. Swalwell spent years — YEARS — positioning himself as a progressive warrior for women. He was out there tweeting about “believing all women” and demanding accountability for Republicans at every turn. He sat on national television lecturing the country about character and integrity.

And the whole time? According to these women, he was sending unsolicited pictures of himself to staffers like some kind of discount Anthony Weiner.

Pop quiz: How many times did CNN bring Swalwell on as a guest to discuss “Republican scandals” over the past five years? Dozens? Hundreds? The guy was practically a regular contributor. He’d sit there with that smug grin, wagging his finger about “holding people accountable.”

Funny how accountability works when it finally comes knocking on your own door, isn’t it?

And we need to talk about the Fang Fang situation again, because it’s relevant. This is a sitting congressman who had a romantic relationship with a literal Chinese intelligence operative. The FBI had to pull him aside and say, “Hey buddy, your girlfriend is a spy.” In any sane country, that would have ended his career on the spot. But Democrats circled the wagons, even kept him on the Intelligence Committee, and let him run around accusing Republicans of being national security threats.

Now we find out he allegedly couldn’t keep his hands to himself around his own staff, either.

The California governor’s race just got a lot more interesting. Swalwell was the leading candidate for Democrats in the race. His exit clears the field a bit for the remaining Democrats who are all trying to out-progressive each other in the race to replace Governor Hair Gel.

Swalwell’s troubles don’t end here though. He is not only under investigation by the local DA’s over these allegations. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) says she will force a vote to kick Swalwell out of Congress! Knowing how Democrats love to circle the wagon and how they supported him in the past when the Fang Fang story came to light, I’m not holding my breath for this to become a reality. You need two thirds of Congress to trigger an expulsion, that would mean many, many Democrats would have to cross the aisle for that to happen.

What’s truly remarkable is the media coverage — or lack thereof. If a Republican congressman had been accused of sexually assaulting a staffer by four separate women, every cable news network in America would be running wall-to-wall coverage with dramatic chyrons and somber anchor voices. There would be calls for resignations, investigations, and probably a Netflix documentary in production by Wednesday.

But Swalwell’s a Democrat, so it’s getting the “local news” treatment. A few articles, a brief mention on the evening broadcast, and then — poof — back to covering whatever Trump tweeted.

We see you, media. We always see you.
